The Bible and Celebrating Holidays
Colossians
2:16: Therefore let no one pass
judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or
a new moon or a Sabbath.
Romans 14:1-23: As for the one who is
weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person
believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let
not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who
abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are
you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master
that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make
him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another
esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. ...
Romans 14:5-6 : One person
esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike.
Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the
day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the
Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in
honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.
Isaiah 1:14-15: Your new moons and
your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am
weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from
you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full
of blood.
Proverbs 31:6-7: Give strong drink to
the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; let them drink
and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.
Jude 1:4 : For certain people
have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation,
ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our
only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Deuteronomy 12:29-32: “When the Lord your
God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you
dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared to
follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not
inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that
I also may do the same.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in
that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have
done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the
fire to their gods. “Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do.
You shall not add to it or take from it
